Chester and Dixie Lynn are both buckled into the extended cab of the truck. And, even though the front seat is a bench, my father sits as close to the passenger side door as humanly possible. If he moves an inch closer, he’ll be sitting on the door handle.

“That’s the plan?” Robert gazes straight ahead at the I-40.

I hand him the folded up map from the corner of the dashboard. “Molly’s boyfriend is from Memphis. I’ve highlighted our route.” I point at the map. “My thought is maybe that’s where they went. If they were anywhere in Diamond City, we would’ve known.”

Hickory and pine trees line both sides of the highway. The grasses between the east and westbound lanes are lush and popping with tiny white buds. Rolling hills appear in front of us as we continue toward Little Rock. We head south as the highway switches from two lanes to three.
